DIE OF SUCCESS
Gentrification is a process of urban transformation in which the original population of a sector or deteriorated neighbourhood and with pauperism is gradually displaced by another of higher purchasing, as a result of reclassification of land’s programmes of strategic urban spaces.
According to Brazilian historian Otília Arantes, culture ceased to be a right won by the workers in the process of the Industrial Revolution to transform into the propellant pier of the machine that governed capitalism.
The instrumentalisation made of culture in favour of these processes of alteration of the social composition, breaks up the majority of proposed criticisms which are made from the artistic action, absorbing with real estate, business, financial interests...
The gentrification especially affects to the neighbourhood collective memory, making impossible the re-construction of the past, causing the loss of local identity.
The displaced people are the last affected by the process of gentrification.
GLOCALIZATION
We understand that gentrification is an aspirational response of local public administrations to a global urban development policy which aims at the implementation of the so-called as “cities brand”.
There are not two equal gentrification processes in their development. We intend to work from local, from the specificity that these processes are in each context, area, city, to identify the tools that generate each community to address the global conflict.
ARCHIVE
We identify the form of file/archive, prior renunciation of their aspiration to totalitarian definition of elements and displaced typologies, as a tool of rapprochement and emphatizing towards everything that is lost in processes as the gentrification does involving the creation of exclusive spaces and social segregation.
With the creation of closed communities, we propose Museo de los Desplazados as an open, incomplete platform, in continuous process of development and necessarily collective.
Also it is in this community where to decide if this is a archive/file that should be forgotten or recover.
Museo de los Desplazados will be created with the participation of local partners with their records giving shape to this container, and the unique value of it are the personal and non recorded experiences that each person acquire in the process.
Each city or area will have their own and specific lines and will retain the autonomy of reaching their own conclusions if they develop them.
WORK IN PROGRESS/GROUP WORK
We intend to work from the interrelationship with profiles potentially in danger of being displaced by these processes, actions involving documentation of processes or bringing information closer to these profiles.
