This short documentary titled "Gentrification" was made back in 2009 by a film student who grew up and witnessed the changes occurring in the neighborhood of Echo Park in Los Angeles. The film gives an insight on the gentrification issues that roughly started becoming noticeable in 2004, and which are still taking place today. Before the gentrification, this neighborhood was strong in Latino culture, having had many family owned businesses and Latino restaurants. Slowly, these lower income families and businesses became displaced out of the neighborhood due to higher costs in rent. Today, Echo Park is strong in small boutiques and vintage stores that attract a hip younger audience but still carries a big Latino community.
